Form and Content
And um...
The abstractions are paintings that
have evolved from working figuratively.
They started as an exercise of the ‘modernist formula’,
of composing primary colors in a rectangle.
The goal is to not think, to suspend judgement
and act directly, intuitively, wading through innumerable layers
of thick-to-thin, transparent-to-opaque color,
to create harmony in seeming chaos.
Being present in this process leads me to recognize the obvious:
time and space, emptiness and form.
This ‘formula’ has provided a secure framework that
frees me to discover deep, emotional and psychological spaces in paint.
This attitude affects my approach with the narrative paintings too,
infusing them with energy and insight.
I believe that creativity reflects our infinite source
and is a primary expression of that original love.
